The second annual Long Walk to Freedom in Richmond, Virginia, had a great turnout and drew awareness to the issues men and women face when returning to the community from jail or prison.
Our colleagues at the nonprofit organization Boaz & Ruth helped organize last month's Walk, which started at the Richmond City Jail and ended across the street at the Freedom House's Conrad Center.
Participants in the fund-raising Walk "experience the virtual reality of reentry issues" from the perspective of people who actually leave the Richmond City Jail, where more than 10,000 men and women are released every year.
Family Justice's training & technical assistance staff have been working in Richmond to bring a strength-based, family-focused approach to a number of community-based organizations and their partners in community supervision.
